Recycling and Waste

Your Waste Aware Guide can offer information and advice on how to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle your waste. You can also find tips and background information by visiting Waste Aware Scotland.

  • Reduce: Waste reduction means taking steps to avoid producing as much waste in the first place. For example, you can refuse a carrier bag when you buy an item that is small or easy to carry, or take a reusable shopping bag with you.
  • Reuse: Reusing waste means using it again and again in its original form. Rechargeable batteries and real nappies are good examples of this. Items can also be reused by letting someone else have them after you have finished with them (e.g. - books, clothes, furniture).
  • Recycle: Recycling waste means using waste materials to manufacture new products.
