Protecting our community
Non-compliant businesses
We publish details of businesses that have not complied with Trading Standards laws.
This is part of the Protecting our Community initiative which is a commitment by the council's Trading Standards team to raise the standard of businesses operating within the region, whilst empowering and protecting consumers from rogue traders.
The team will engage with businesses to verify trading addresses and contact details, examine paperwork and assess compliance with legislation.
Businesses that don't engage with the team, use unverified trading details or fail to address non-compliances will be added to a directory which consumers can access, enabling them to evaluate businesses and make informed decisions with confidence.
The directory of non-compliant businesses will be published on this page once ready.
To start with the initiative focuses on the roofing sector. Complaints about this sector have risen significantly following storm Arwen, with 46 received in 2023 and 93 in 2024, an increase of 102%. Financial detriment associated with these complaints is approximated to be £330,000 in 2023 and £461,000 in 2024. The project aims to reverse this trend.
Consumers can also search Aberdeenshire Trusted Trader for businesses that have been rigorously vetted and approved by Aberdeenshire Trading Standards.
