Community Engagement and Participation

On this page you can find out about our commitment to communities. Community engagement is all about bringing people together to work towards a common goal.

Community Engagement and Participation Policy

Our Community Engagement and Participation Policy (PDF 2.8MB) has been developed to ensure that all engagement undertaken by the council is effective, efficient and consistent.

This policy details our commitment to making it easier for everybody in Aberdeenshire to have a voice in community engagement undertaken by the council.

We want to build and maintain relationship with communities, and to make sure that when we carry out engagement, that it’s clear what we’re trying to achieve. We want to give you – as individuals or as part of groups – a stronger voice and greater influence over council decisions that affect you where we can.

When we have engaged with communities, that shouldn’t be the end. We will work to ensure that the results of our work with you is shared and that we learn from what we find.

Engage Aberdeenshire

We created our online engagement portal, Engage Aberdeenshire, to make it easier for people to get involved and have their say.

The portal is not designed to replace face-to-face engagement but a central hub to keep up to date with engagement projects. The web portal will help you find and take part in consultation and engagement activities that interest you.

Through Engage Aberdeenshire you can:

  • share your ideas
  • influence decisions that matter in your area
  • follow projects as they develop and see how your views make a difference
  • attend a public meeting or workshop, or to call in at an information event or roadshow, depending on the issue
