Sport and leisure activities during coronavirus - Environmental Health guidance

Under the current level 4 restrictions, a maximum of two people from two separate households can meet outdoors for sport or exercise. Please note, children under 12 do not count towards households or numbers when meeting outside.

You can travel for local outdoor sport or exercise such as walking, cycling, golf or running that starts and finishes at the same place, which can be up to 5 miles from the boundary of your local authority area. The gathering restrictions of a maximum of two people from two separate households apply.

At this time, indoor sports facilities are closed, however, outdoor gyms can remain open. Please note, to comply as an ‘outdoor gym’, the premise would have to not be considered to be wholly or substantially enclosed for the purposes of section 4(2) of the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 under the Prohibition of Smoking in Certain Premises (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

Further guidance

Sport Scotland has published the latest sport and physical activity guidance.

Please refer to the Scottish Governments guidance for sport and leisure facilities.

Please note, as an organiser of a sporting activity, you should complete a COVID-19 specific risk assessment, identifying the risks of COVID-19 transmission and suitable control measures. To support the ‘test and protect’ scheme, you should record attendance and store information in line with the relevant GDPR requirements. View further information on test and protect.
