Smart meters and energy monitors explained

Smart meters and energy monitors can help you to be more energy efficient by keeping track of your energy usage.

Smart meters are a new kind of energy meter and replace your existing meter. A smart meter sends an electronic meter reading to your energy supplier. So you don't need to provide meter readings, your bills will be accurate and it'll be easier to switch suppliers.

Energy monitors are small devices that give you an estimate of how much energy you're using in your home. They show you how much money your energy consumption is costing you and how using different appliances affects your energy bills. They can help you cut your energy consumption by changing your energy usage habits. Energy monitors don't replace existing meters, but should be used with them.
