Help with home repairs and adaptations
Small Repair Grant
Small Repair Grants are available through Aberdeenshire Care and Repair to cover minor internal and external repairs to your home.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant the following criteria must be met:
- You must be over 65, or have a disability, or be supported by services from Health and Social Care
- You must be in receipt of means tested benefits
- The homeowner must stay in the property
- The property must be in council tax band A-D
We can also consider applications from:
- Residents who are supported to live independently by Health and Social Care services
- Unpaid carers who own their own home and are responsible for caring for someone else in the household who qualifies for the grants
What the grant can cover
Funding will be provided for jobs estimated at around £250 to cover minor internal and external repairs:
- For safety around the home
- To prevent the long term deterioration of a property
- To make a property more energy efficient
Small jobs that are essential to maintain a person's health and wellbeing will also be considered.
Examples of jobs covered by the grant include:
- Roof repairs where there are obvious signs of water ingress
- Draughty doors and windows
- Repairs to central heating and hot water
- Security of doors and windows
- Repairing a broken standard amenity, such as a toilet, bath, shower or sink
- Electrical repairs, such as sockets, lights and security lighting
Outbuilding such as garages and conservatories are not covered.
These grants are not suited for urgent issues or emergency repairs as they take time to administer and approve. If you do have any emergency or urgent issues we can provide you with contractors details to call directly.

What happens after
We will offer you a choice of local contractors. You can source your own but all contractors will need to be registered with Care and Repair before work starts.
Responsibilities covering works completed remain with the homeowner and the contractors, the same as any other domestic works completed to the property.
