2017 has been designated as the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology by the Scottish Government, a theme which provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate the wealth and diversity of historical and archaeological sites and stories which Aberdeenshire has to offer.

Aberdeenshire’s heritage can be traced back to around 12,000 BC, so with sites ranging from stone circles through medieval castles to World War II defences there are plenty of fascinating sites to explore in the region.

Throughout 2017 we will also be presenting a wide variety of events and activities celebrating our unique heritage. With something for everyone, we hope you will be inspired to find out more about the history which is all around you.
