Museum services advice

View information about our service:

Collection items not on display

We have over 100,000 objects in our collections, so it would be difficult to display them all at once. If the item you are looking for is not on display, it may be in storage or touring another museum. Appointments can be made to view objects by contacting our headquarters. View our our access policy guidelines (pdf 43.6KB).

Donating

We appreciate offers of donations and loans to the collections. We accept these in line with our collection policy. View the collections development policy 2015-2020 (pdf 295KB).

Please either take the object to your nearest museum in Aberdeenshire or call our our museum headquarters

Volunteering

We are always trying to encourage people to get involved in their heritage and there are many opportunities to volunteer at any of our museums and heritage centres. Activities that volunteers can become involved with include, exhibition and display work, oral history projects and educational workshops. We try and tailor the activities to those the volunteer is interested in. To find out more please contact us.

History of objects

We offer members of the public the opportunity to bring their historic objects to the museum for assessment by our staff. This usually includes providing information about the item such as maker, place of origin and advice on how to care for, display or store the object. We may involve more than one member of staff or department in the process. When necessary, help is also given about where further information may be obtained. Please contact us to arrange an appointment.

We are unable to offer valuations on objects.

Photographic prints

We offer a photographic print service for people looking to obtain copy of images for study or publications. You can view a large collection of photographs at our Arbuthnot Museum. For more information please contact us.

Exhibition space

We encourage established and new talent to show work. The Arbuthnot Museum houses Aberdeenshire’s largest gallery space. Individuals or groups are welcome to apply for exhibition space. Please contact us for more information.
