Inverurie - novice and sprint Triathlon description

Swim section

Inverurie Pool is 25m, 4 lane pool allowing heats of 20 swimmers. Sprint distance is 30 lengths, Novice swim is 16 lengths. The start is at the shallow end of the pool. The swim exit is out through the changing area.

Transition area

The transition area is set up in the bus park at Inverurie Academy. View the Inverurie transition area map (pdf 58KB). There is about a 150m run to reach your bike.

There will be a coned off area for you to run down. The run to the transition area is on tarmac and it is advised that you wear footwear for this section. Footwear may be left outside the swim exit on the pavement. All other clothing should be left at the transition area.

Cycle section - Sprint

Run with your bike from the transition area to the mount and dismount line, witch is situated after the timing mats .

Turn right on to Victoria Street and follow the road until you come to a mini roundabout where you will turn left onto Blackhall Road. Continue along Blackhall Road until you come to a roundabout, go straight ahead here passing the police station, on passing the police station you will come to the A96 and Blackhall roundabout. At this point when entering the roundabout you must be aware that you are crossing the main A96 (extra care must be taken here). Take the third exit on this roundabout and head out passing Anderson's. Continue along this road to the roundabout and go straight on, then continue along the road for about 1km to Dubston and turn right.

Keep going along this road which is an uphill section and you will come to a sweeping right hand corner with a fast decent to Balquhan Mains. At this T junction turn left and follow this road into Chapel of Garioch where you will bear left. The next section is an 8km undulating stretch of road, which you should remain on until Delab Junction. Turn left and after a 50m track turn left again passing the Sir Arthur Grant Outdoor Centre, remain on this road until you see the signs and junction for Burnhervie and Inverurie, here you should bear left. Continue along this road going through Burnhervie (taking care at the narrow bridge) until you reach Polinair Dam. The road here sweeps round to the right and here you should follow the road to your left, you will continue on this road until you come to a roundabout where you will go straight ahead, at the next roundabout again proceed straight ahead cycling down past Andersons, you will then reach the roundabout at the A96 where you will give way at the marshall, once you have crossed that roundabout you will come to Morrisons roundabout where again you will proceed straight ahead, follow this road down past Gordon House which will be on your right until you reach the next roundabout where you will go three quarter of the way round exiting onto Victoria street again, follow this road until directed to turn into the transition area where you will dismount at the line and push your bike to the racking.

Cycle section - Novice

On leaving Chapel of Garioch you will turn to your right, at the Inverurie 6 sign follow this road to its end where you will rejoin the sprint course when you reach reach Polinair Dam and here you should follow the road to your left, you will continue on this road until you come to a roundabout where yo will go straight ahead, at the next roundabout again proceed straight ahead cycling down past Andersons, you will then reach the roundabout at the A96 where you will give way at the marshall, once you have crossed that roundabout you will come to Morrisons roundabout where again you will proceed straight ahead follow this road down past Gordon House which will be on your right until you reach the next roundabout where you will go three quarter of the way round exiting onto Victoria street again, follow this road until directed to turn into the transition area where you will dismount at the line and push your bike to the racking.

Run section - Sprint and novice

After racking your bike, exit transition area and turn left along the pavement between the houses and the transition area. Follow the footpath until you reach Kellands Road. At the marshall cross over the road. Once you have crossed the road continue along the pavement and turn into Selbie Drive continue around Selbie Drive until you reach Anderson Walk where you will turn left uphill towards the roundabout where you will turn left again following Upperboat road until you reach the hospital where you will turn left before entering Kellands Park where you will follow the path around the park. On exiting the park, the novice competitors will make their way back to transition area to the finish whereas the sprinters will do another lap of the street circuit before heading back to the finish area.
