e-books and e-audiobooks

Read or listen to books on your phone, tablet or e-reader. We offer a wide range of e-books and e-audiobooks through our provider OverDrive:

You can freely browse e-books and e-audiobooks but you need to join a library to be able to read or download items.

We also offer access to academic e-books including Dawsonera.

How to sign in

If you already have library membership you can sign in with your library number and PIN ('Sign in' button in top right).

You can also sign in with your OverDrive account or via Facebook (you will need to add your library card number first time you log in).

Compatible devices and software

OverDrive e-books can't be read on a Kindle, however they will work on a Kindle Fire.

You can borrow e-books and e-audiobooks to read or listen to them online immediately on your computer or mobile device using a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer.

To read or listen to your borrowed items offline at any time you need to download them first. You can do that via the app on a tablet, smartphone, e-reader or computer.

Borrow e-books and e-audiobooks

You can borrow up to 10:

  • e-books for a period of 21 days
  • e-audiobooks for a period of 14 days

At the end of the borrowing period, the system returns your item automatically and makes it available for other users to borrow. You can renew your item 3 days before the expiry day. When the loan expires you can't renew it but you can borrow it again if the copy hasn’t been requested by another user.

Depending on the software used on your device, items will disappear from your device (Libby app) or show as expired when the loan period ends (web browser or OverDrive app). If they show as expired you won't be able to open them but you will see an option to delete them.
