New partnership in place to drive exciting vision for Fraserburgh Beach

Aberdeenshire Council is delighted to announce that it has teamed up with Kevin Murray Associates (KMA), a Glasgow-based award-winning spatial planning consultancy, to help develop a new vision and masterplan for the beach area in Fraserburgh.

The work will form the next key stage in the ongoing regeneration of the town and will be carried out over the next 12 months or so.

The waterfront in Fraserburgh is a much-loved asset in the town and has seen a steady increase in use over the past few years. Well known for its surfing, it is felt that more could be done in the area to support local economic growth and health and social wellbeing outcomes in the town, but without compromising the wonderful natural setting and environment.

The consortium also includes Willie Miller Urban Design and Rob Thompson Urbanism, who will work closely with the council and the community to arrive at a long-term vision for the area. The outcome of the masterplan will help to inform future projects and funding bids to see it become a reality.

The local community is being encouraged to get involved in the process and can register to be kept informed by sending their name and e-mail address to fraserburghbeach@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

Chair of the Banff & Buchan Area Committee, Councillor Doreen Mair, said: “The last five years have already seen award-winning transformational change in Fraserburgh through the various regeneration initiatives that have been delivered. Turning our attention to improving the whole beach area is the next logical step as it is a wonderful and much-loved asset for the town and is a key attraction for both visitors and the local community. I have already met the team from KMA and was delighted with the enthusiasm they showed for the project.”

Kevin Murray, Director and Founder of KMA, added: “The team is very excited about being involved in this project. A number of us hail from the north-east and we recognise the value and importance of the beach area in Fraserburgh to the town’s future prospects.  We are looking forward to getting to know the area and the community more over the coming weeks and months.”
