Fishing vessel run aground

On the evening of 24 October, a small fishing vessel ran aground on the northern part of Cairnbulg Point. The vessel has subsequently broken up.

There are no indications at this stage of any significant pollutants being released from the breakup of the vessel. Aberdeenshire Council is in discussion with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency regarding any potential pollutants coming ashore.

At this time, the advice is to be aware that a vessel has broken up and that there is a small possibility of material from the vessel washing ashore, particularly in the Fraserburgh beach area. Officers from the council will be monitoring the area. Residents are advised to stay away from any washed-up materials or areas of potential pollution. Residents are also advised to keep dogs under control and away from any material.

Reports of washed-up materials or any suspected areas of pollution should made to Protective Services by emailing environmental@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or calling 01467 539039.
