Tributes paid to former councillors Jim Towers and Anne Tunstall

Tributes have been paid to two former Aberdeenshire councillors who died recently.

Former Cruden councillor Jim Towers served with Grampian Regional Council from 1990, thereafter joining Aberdeenshire Council upon its formation in what was the Cruden-Boddam ward in 1995.

Jim was re-elected in 1999 and then in 2003 for what became the Cruden ward, before his retiral in 2007.

Anne Tunstall also served Aberdeenshire over a number of years, initially as a Kincardine and Deeside District councillor and then with Grampian Regional Council, before joining Aberdeenshire Council from its shadow year in 1995 until 2003.

During her time with Aberdeenshire Council, Anne represented the Lower Deeside ward from 1995, and then Portlethen North from 1999.

Leader of Aberdeenshire Council Cllr Mark Findlater said: “I am very sad to hear of the passing of two of our former long-serving councillors.

“Between them, Jim and Anne offered many years of service to Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Regional Council, and I am sure their contributions will be remembered for years to come. Our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time.”
