Circular economy business officer appointed to support north-east businesses
North-east businesses are being encouraging to adopt a circular economy approach following a new appointment by Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City councils.
Circular economy business officer Murray Wallace will promote opportunities and help firms identify savings by incorporating circular economy principles into their business processes.
The role has been jointly funded by the Business Gateway flexible fund - which supports projects to be more responsive, local and flexible to meet the evolving needs of businesses – and by Zero Waste Scotland to target greater economic, net zero and sustainable opportunities.
Mr Wallace is keen to work with businesses, organisations, external stakeholders and contractors to develop and deliver circular economy support initiatives to reduce the amount of waste generated by business activities consigned to landfills and encouraging businesses to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
He said: “Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire have a wide range of dynamic entrepreneurs and businesses who I am looking forward to supporting. Coming from a background of continuous improvement within industry, I see the principals of the circular economy as a business efficiency opportunity with social, economic and environmental benefits. I hope to offer a ‘boots on the ground’ approach by signposting sector-specific information, exploring networking opportunities and directing specialist advice to north-east businesses.”
