Tribute paid to former Provost of Aberdeenshire Raymond Bisset OBE

Tribute has been paid to former Provost of Aberdeenshire Raymond Bisset OBE following his death on Friday (Nov 3).

Former headteacher Raymond served for 33 years as a councillor with Aberdeenshire Council and its predecessors, stepping down in 2007.

During his time with the authority he served two terms as Provost and was the first to hold the title following a decision to change the role from ‘convenor.’

Raymond held a number of duties within the council, with his passion for fishing leading him to play an active role within the Gordon District Fishing Management Committee.

He was also a former director of Gordon Enterprise Trust, and of what was the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, as well as being part of various community groups, particularly in the Garioch area.

After leaving the council, Raymond continued his public service and served as chair of the Integration Joint Board within the Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership.

Provost of Aberdeenshire Cllr Judy Whyte said: “Anyone who knew Raymond, as I did, will remember him as a gentleman. He took a real interest in people and was passionate about Aberdeenshire’s communities.

“His many years a councillor served him well as he took on the role of Provost, with his calm and fair approach drawing respect across the chamber.

“Raymond will be very much missed by his friends and the community and those who had the pleasure of working alongside him at the council, and our thoughts are with Heather and his wider family at this very sad time.”
