A summer of educational Ranger Service events
Aberdeenshire Council’s Ranger Service has organised dozens of educational outings for families and fact finders to enjoy across the summer holidays.
From discovering the secrets of the seaside, bees and butterflies, to informative walks and bike rides, to detective work on the river’s edge, each free event will enlighten and occupy the minds of young and old alike.

Councillor Alan Turner, chair of the council’s Infrastructure Services Committee (ISC), said: “Aberdeenshire is home to a rich natural heritage inhabited by all sorts of wildlife for people to discover. These events will guide people through their local environment to learn more about that often-forgotten world that's freely available for us all to enjoy.”
ISC vice chair Councillor Isobel Davidson said: “These events are a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the unique natural world within Aberdeenshire. While the Ranger Service hosts events in every season, these summer activities will help families have fun and factual adventures while the schools are on break.”
The next event is on 10 July in St Cyrus’s National Nature Reserve for Don’t Step on a Bee Day. Big bumblers and quieter solitaries set up home for the summer in the reserve. Rangers will help locals and visitors learn about the importance of the bees before guiding them to where they may see the busy pollinators hard at work.
The council has a team of six rangers based across the region to help residents and visitors discover and enjoy Aberdeenshire’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
The rangers work across Aberdeenshire to protect and promote our biodiversity. The team also provides opportunities for residents and visitors to benefit from our connection with nature through sessions for the public, school groups, and promotion of responsible countryside access.
