Joint operation targets taxi safety in Aberdeenshire
A number of taxis and private hire cars were stopped and checked by Aberdeenshire Council Licensing Standards and Police Scotland recently as part of a joint safety operation.
The initiative, which took place at targeted locations across Aberdeenshire including Inverurie, Kintore and Stonehaven, focused on road safety and adherence to the law.
Licensing and roads policing teams conducted thorough checks, offering advice to drivers and taking enforcement action where necessary.
The teams ensured all taxis and private hire vehicles were roadworthy and properly licensed, while also verifying driver credentials and adherence to licensing conditions.
A key aspect of the operation was to promote safe driving practices and compliance with road traffic laws.
No offences or major issues were detected, however some minor contraventions were identified and dealt with at the time.
Keith Simpson, Aberdeenshire Council’s Senior Licensing Standards Officer, said afterwards: “This initiative supports our shared commitment to keeping passengers safe and maintaining high standards in the local taxi industry. The joint operation highlights our pro-active approach to ensuring taxi services in Aberdeenshire are safe, reliable and fully compliant with the law.”
Roads Policing Officer Daniel Baird added: “Public safety is our top priority and these important checks help us identify and address any issues before they pose a risk to passengers or other road users. Fortunately, the vast majority of taxi and private hire drivers do operate safely and we really do appreciate the support and cooperation we get from the trade not only during such operations but throughout the year.”
Further operations are planned as part of ongoing efforts to support safe and professional taxi services throughout the region.
