More and more businesses getting vetted to join the Aberdeenshire Trusted Trader network

North-east residents are now able to find a trader and check they can trust them as more and more local businesses are joining the Aberdeenshire Trusted Trader network.

Launched back in 2023, the scheme is part of the Scottish Trusted Trader platform, as well as being promoted through the Scotland-wide trader portal approvedtrader.scot which is owned and run by SCOTSS Trading Standards.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Standards officers undertake a rigorous vetting process which considers trading history, business practices and a commitment from the business to trade fairly. All members have to follow a strict Code of Practice, ensuring accountability and protection for local residents and consumers.

There are now 18 Aberdeenshire businesses approved and a further four being progressed – ranging from plasterers and joiners to plumbers and electrical contractors.

The aim of the scheme is to:

  • Increase consumer confidence
  • Help protect residents from doorstep crime
  • Encourage good practice within the local business sector
  • Promote vetted local businesses

Cllr Alan Turner, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “It’s tremendous to see more and more businesses signing up to the Aberdeenshire Trusted Trader network. By choosing a local Trusted Trader you are not only supporting local businesses – they are businesses you can put your faith in.

"Our members are part of the Aberdeenshire community, contributing to the local economy and by choosing local, you’re investing in your community’s future. Our Trading Standards team continues to work hard to safeguard our communities from cold-callers and doorstep crime and strives to promote good, reliable services within the local business sector.

"I very much hope that residents support the Aberdeenshire Trusted Trader directory, safe in the knowledge that all these traders have been fully vetted by our Trading Standards team.”
