Council marks completion of Mintlaw affordable housing development
Aberdeenshire Council has marked the completion of 73 new rental properties as part of a housing development at Nether Aden, Mintlaw.
The homes are a mix of houses, flats, and bungalows with between one and four-bedrooms and were completed in the summer. Most are now in occupation, with the final properties in the process of being allocated.
This new build project was delivered in four phases by contractors Ogilvie Construction to the council’s new build specification, which focuses on high energy-efficiency. The firm also completed Newlands Road, which lies alongside the development.
The completion of the properties was formally marked by a short ceremony at the site, led by Provost of Aberdeenshire Cllr Judy Whyte.
Some of the properties have been delivered in collaboration between Aberdeenshire Council and the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, meeting the needs of some of their clients.
As such, several of the new properties have been specifically adapted for those with physical and learning disabilities, with wet rooms and various other aids and adaptations.
The properties were developed as part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), with part of the of the £18million investment funded by the Scottish Government’s New Build Grant.
Attending the development to mark the completion were Provost of Aberdeenshire Cllr Judy Whyte, Buchan Area Committee and ward councillors, and representatives of the council’s housing service.
Provost Whyte said: “I was very pleased to be able to see the completed development for myself and the way it has been tailored to meet the varying needs of tenants.
“Speaking with local councillors and the housing service, these properties are a very welcome addition for Mintlaw, and I wish our new tenants all the best in their new homes.”
Cllr Anne Stirling, chair of the Integration Joint Board and Aberdeenshire Council’s Communities Committee, said: “I very much welcome the opportunity for the Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership to work with the council to tailor some of the homes for the needs of clients.
“This is a great example of partnership working that will provide the best outcomes for tenants and allow them to move in with ease and feel at home quickly.”
