Aberdeenshire Council sponsorship policy endorsed

Councillors today (Thursday) endorsed an updated policy – opening the door to increased sponsorship of council activities.

The updated and inclusive advertising and sponsorship policy has been put in place to ensure that all sectors of industry can engage with the council on projects.

It is hoped it will also alleviate the impact of some projects on the taxpayer.

The purpose is to make sure that the process of sponsoring or advertising with the council is transparent, consistent and aligned to council priorities.

It was important that the policy reflects working with companies who have the same objectives on climate activity – but at the same time ensuring that organisations in the north-east who operate across legacy energy companies and the oil and gas sector have the ability to engage in discussion with officers about relevant opportunities.

Co-leader Cllr Anne Stirling said: “This is an important part of our transformation activity, ensuring that we do not just focus internally, but also look at opportunities to generate income and work with external partners.

“Taking forward the policy as outlined will open up new opportunities and partnerships which is exceptionally welcome at this time.”

Co-leader Cllr Stewart Adams said: “This policy allows us to continue to build partnerships with local businesses and organisations whilst also strengthening links and collaboration with the private sector.

“The anticipated outcomes will be reported through the council’s transformation programme and I will welcome seeing the benefits, including income generation, that are delivered over the forthcoming year and beyond.”

Chair of the meeting, Cllr Judy Whyte said “This is a great example of one of our transformation themes taking shape.

“Often officer work on these behind the scenes but in this example, there will be tangible benefits to communities and businesses, and I encourage interested parties to reach out.

“We can use this to help leverage working relationships which can sometimes offset the impact on council budgets. I encourage interested parties to consider these opportunities”.
