Just two weeks to go until Inspiring Aberdeenshire
With just two weeks to go until this year’s Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards, we’re highlighting our official charity partner.
Shirley’s Space is a Crimond-based mental health charity founded seven years ago.
It was selected in recognition of its vital role in supporting mental health and wellbeing across the north-east of Scotland.
The charity’s work has recently been praised by Aberdeenshire Provost Judy Whyte, who visited Shirley’s Space with Deputy Provost Ron McKail.
She said: “The charity’s dedication to supporting mental health in our communities is truly inspiring.
“At a time when many are struggling in silence, their work offers hope, understanding, and practical help to those who need it.
“Through the services offered by Shirley’s Space, they not only raise awareness but also break down stigma surrounding mental health.
“Their commitment ensures people feel heard, valued, and supported.
“It’s clear that the efforts of the charity, and those like them, is making a real and lasting difference to the lives of countless individuals and families across Aberdeenshire.”
Shirley’s Space provides a range of free, confidential services for adults experiencing mental health challenges.
From one-to-one appointments and support groups to social meetups and a dedicated text service, Shirley’s Space is committed to tackling loneliness, isolation, and emotional distress.
Trustee Ashley Mackie said: “Over the last few years we’ve built a safe and welcoming space in Aberdeenshire where anyone struggling with their mental health can find support and understand that they’re not alone.
“We’re here to offer a listening ear, provide trained support, and offer people a moment to breathe, because sometimes the strongest thing you can do is talk.”
Services offered by Shirley’s Space include:
• Drop-in centre – Tuesdays, 10am–4pm: A safe, friendly space to talk with trained volunteers over a cup of coffee.
• Men’s group – Thursdays, 2pm–4pm: A weekly group to support men in a relaxed, interest-based setting, followed by mixed games nights from 7pm–9pm.
• Ladies’ craft group – Thursdays, 10am–noon: A supportive group fostering connection and creativity.
