Last chance to apply for Buchan Small Grant Fund

Ten community groups from across Buchan have shared more than £4,500 in small grant funding this summer.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan Small Grant Fund supports activities which need a helping-hand to undertake a fairly small project.

The Buchan area committee allocated £5,350 for this year’s scheme, with a maximum grant of £500 per application.

Councillors heard on Tuesday (Sept 16) that following the approvals, this has left a remaining balance of £1,854 which additional groups can now apply up until December 14th.

The successful groups received the following funding:

Cruden Bay Horticultural Club awarded £377 towards six barrel planters

Cruden Bay Men’s Shed awarded £500 towards tools and equipment for the men’s shed

Cruden Community Council awarded £500 towards a village orderly

Hatton Cabin Club awarded £500 towards the costs of providing a shelter

Let’s All Talk North East Mums awarded £491 towards costs to expand their Peterhead Peer Support Group

New Deer Community Association awarded £350 towards a community consultation event

Peterhead Community Council awarded £500 towards a portable PA system, projector and exhibition panel display kit

Strichen Community Park awarded £500 towards costs to improve the lodge café and restaurant car park area

Strichen Town House awarded £500 towards installing an external power point at the Town House

Stuartfield Community Association awarded £350 towards a community consultation event

Welcoming the recent awards, Buchan area committee chair Cllr Dianne Beagrie said: “I am delighted to see these dedicated community groups receiving funding to support a wide range of important projects in their local area. I am always impressed by the continuing work and effort our community volunteers put into new, innovative activities and initiatives which benefit so many within our communities.

"The beauty of our Small Grants Fund is that it helps smaller initiatives get off the ground when they may not be suitable for our larger-scale funding sources. While the remaining balance isn’t huge, it will certainly help our communities in some way so I would encourage groups to apply as soon as possible.”
