Nathan’s Wastesavers adds 54 sites across Aberdeenshire for recycling clothes
Aberdeenshire Council and Nathan’s Wastesavers are working together to provide clothes recycling at select council-run sites across the region.
Throughout Aberdeenshire, the local authority hosts various recycling opportunities at its 15 recycling centres and 178 recycling points.
Last year, the Salvation Army adjusted its clothing bank network to redirect their resources to other reuse and recycling services, which meant removing textile recycling from 54 of these council-managed sites.
In the coming months, Nathan’s Wastesavers will gradually return clothes recycling to the 54 sites, accepting clean, dry textiles and paired shoes for reuse and recycling.

Councillor Alan Turner, Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, said: “Donating clothes that are in good condition is an excellent way to reduce waste and our impact on the environment, so I’m glad to see full service returned to our recycling points and centres.
“Making clothes is energy intensive—from growing the fibres, to manufacturing the clothes, to transporting them to customers. It all adds up. Instead of throwing away all that effort and energy put into making the clothes, donating them so that others can benefit is much better for both the charities involved and our environment.”
Steven Hughes, Nathan’s Wastesavers Contract Manager, said: “Donated textiles are carefully sorted and graded for reuse and recycling. Wearable items are redistributed and re-worn elsewhere, while damaged materials are recycled into new products such as fibre-to-fibre materials, wiping cloths, carpet underlay and insultation—extending their life and reducing environmental impact.”
