Extra routes put on for bin collections - Friday 16, Saturday 17, and Monday 19 January

Our crews have shown extraordinary commitment to get Aberdeenshire back on track after the recent adverse weather. That continues with extra off-schedule collections for black lid bins this Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 7am.

  • These will get the majority of Aberdeenshire’s black lid bins back on track

  • The focus is on black lid bins that have been missed and haven’t already had a catchup collection

  • As part of these additional collections, we will empty bins only—no bags of side waste for these additional pick ups (this is so we can ensure our crews can fairly reach as many people as possible with the time and lorry capacity available across the two days).

There are a few ways to find out if you will be picked up in these extra routes. You can go to the MyAberdeenshire app (aberdeenshire.gov.uk/my/mobile-app), click on Bin Collections, and if you are getting an extra pick up it will be listed in there. The waste service is also updating the postcode checker on our website at online.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/Apps/Waste-Collections

On Friday 16 January from 7am, we will be in and around:
  • Aboyne, Carnie, Cuminestown, Inverurie, Longside, Netherdale, New Aberdour, New Pitsligo, Oldmeldrum, Pitmedden, and Port Elphinstone.
On Saturday 17 January from 7am, we will be in and around:
  • Ballater, Huntly, Inverurie, Netherbrae, Peterhead, Tarland, Tarves, Turriff, and Westhill.
On Monday 19 January from 7am, we will be in and around:
  • Auchnagatt and Maud.

Once we complete this weekend’s catchup, we will prepare to put on further off-schedule routes for any black-lid bins that remain delayed by the recent weather.

Ad hoc collections

We are still doing our ad-hoc routes where and when we can. These will happen at short notice, and we appreciate that can be frustrating. But we are going to prioritise communicating these through the myAberdeenshire app, so download and sign up and make sure your notifications are switched on: aberdeenshire.gov.uk/my/mobile-app

Household recycling centres

If you want to, and are able to, you can get rid of waste sooner at our household recycling centres.

We are temporarily accepting food waste for recycling at Macduff, Ellon, Inverurie, Stonehaven, and Banchory household recycling centres.

We ask that all visitors to our household recycling centres check the website prior to travelling in case of closure, a change in opening times, a need to book, to see what can be recycled, and the type of vehicles that are welcomed: aberdeenshire.gov.uk/RecyclingCentres

Our routine collections

If your bin was missed on its scheduled collection day, you can put out extra alongside that same bin on its next scheduled collection day. Extra/side recycling or waste must match the bin being collected that day. Extra recycling or waste can be presented as follows:

  • The black lid bin (non-recyclable materials) in additional black bin bags—please double-bag if necessary to prevent splits.

  • The blue lid bin (paper, card, and cardboard only) in cardboard boxes. Please try to keep them clean and dry.

  • The orange lid bin (metal tins, cans, aerosols and foil, food and drink cartons, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays) in non-black bags to help crews know they can safely decant the contents into the emptied orange lid bin for re-emptying.

Thank you

Your patience, encouragement, and kindness have all been greatly received by our Waste and Recycling teams, both during the recent, significant weather event and throughout our catchup work. We are incredibly grateful for this, and we sincerely thank you for all the support you’ve shown.
