A centuries-old network of drove roads, military roads, mediaeval highways and mountain passes extends throughout Aberdeenshire, echoing the commerce and culture of bygone times.
Many are public rights of way.
Some are signposted at their termini and/or featured in guidebooks.
Others are fragmentary and difficult to locate. All require the use of a map and competent navigation skills, together with hillcraft skills for the upland routes.
See guidebooks and mountain safety advice for more information.
