20mph speed limit
We are proposing to introduce permanent 20mph speed limits in built-up areas across Aberdeenshire.
The proposal follows the Scottish Government’s commitment that all appropriate roads in built-up areas will have a safer speed limit of 20mph by 2025. This national strategy seeks to introduce a consistency across the country and simplifying it for drivers.
Associated costs of the speed limit implementation programme are fully covered by Transport Scotland.
Benefits of slower speeds
Slower speeds bring many benefits to places and people such as:
- Reducing the risk and severity of collisions
- Making it easier to cross roads
- Encouraging people to walk, wheel and cycle more
- Creating more pleasant areas to live and spend time in
Have your say
The consultation is part of the statutory process for specific speed limit orders which would introduce widespread 20mph limits.
