Merger of Fintry School and King Edward School
The council is proposing to merge Fintry School and King Edward School. Two options are being considered:
- Option 1: merge Fintry School and King Edward School, keeping the Fintry School building and permanently discontinuing education at King Edward School
- Option 2: merge Fintry School and King Edward School, keeping the King Edward School building and permanently discontinuing education at Fintry School
The consultation will run from 16th February until 27th March 2026 and any written comments on the proposal must be received by the council within this time frame for them to be taken into account. Comments should be emailed to learningestates@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or sent to:

An online survey about the merger of Fintry and King Edward Schools is available as part of the consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held on 4th March 2026 at 6.30pm in Turriff Primary School, Meadowbank Road, Turriff, AB53 4WB.
Please note that the proposed change, if approved, will be implemented on the completion of the school closure process.

Closure of Kinneff School
The council is proposing to discontinue education Kinneff School, which is currently mothballed (temporary closure), and re-assign its catchment area to either Bervie or Catterline School.
The consultation will run from 12th January until 6th March 2026 and any written comments on the proposal must be received by the council within this time in order for them to be taken into account.
An online survey about the closure of Kinneff School is available as part of the consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal was originally scheduled to take place in person. However, due to continued weather warnings and road conditions, the meeting was instead be held online on 4th February 2026 at 6.30pm via Microsoft Teams.
The rescheduled in person public meeting will be held on 3rd March 2026, at 6pm in Kinneff and Catterline Village Hall, Kinneff, Montrose DD10 0TE. The information presented at both meetings will be the same.
Please note the proposed changes, if approved, will take place immediately after the conclusion of the statutory process relating to school closures.

Closure of Tullynessle School
The council is proposing to discontinue education at Tullynessle School, which is currently mothballed, and re-assign its catchment area to either Alford Primary School or Keig School.
The consultation ran from 1st September until 31 October 2025. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held at Tullynessle and Forbes Hall on 29th September 2025 and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.
Following the statutory consultation period, officers submitted the proposal document, survey results, written and oral representations, and other relevant documentation to Education Scotland for their consideration. Education Scotland will produce a report addressing educational aspects of the proposal.
Officers will then review the proposal in the context of the Education Scotland report, survey results, oral and written representations and produce a final report on the consultation.
The consultation report will be presented at Marr Area Committee, Education and Children’s Services Committee and Full Council for final decision.
