Deeside Day Opportunities skills development and training

People who use Deeside Day Opportunities can take part in the day services' projects and activities. These can help you develop and learn new skills.

Our projects and activities include:

Training courses

We offer a mixture of ASDAN accredited courses and non-accredited subjects. ASDAN is an education charity and awarding organisation. Courses are reviewed annually and include:

  • ICT
  • World of work
  • Photography
  • Creativity
  • Baking
  • Transition Challenge

We have a workshop facility in Aboyne. People using the day service can:

  • work in the craft shop
  • make kindling
  • design and make wooden crafts for selling
  • upcycle furniture
  • achieve accredited ASDAN certificates

There are many tasks that can be done as part of working in the craft shop, including:

  • serving the customers
  • handling cash
  • pricing stock
  • maintaining the stock list
  • answering the phone
  • cashing up the takings

Some people use the project as a training opportunity, with a plan to develop skills and move onto other opportunities. Others access the project as part of their daily activities and social development.

Kindling project

This project makes kindling from recycled pallets donated by local companies.

You can do different tasks, such as:

  • de-nailing the pallets
  • sawing the wood
  • chopping the wood into kindlers
  • bagging the kindlers

The finished products are sold to members of the public and local coal merchants.
