Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA)
The Management of Offenders (Scotland) Act 2005 introduced a statutory responsibility on the local responsible authorities to put in place joint arrangements for the identification, assessment and management of risk posed by certain groups of offenders. The responsible authorities are:
- the council
- health board, and
- Scottish Prison Service
The arrangements are currently ‘live’ in respect of registered sex offenders and restricted hospital patients. Aberdeenshire Council hosts the unit that coordinates these arrangements across the Grampian area.
The Scottish Government's leaflet Managing Sex Offenders in the Community aims to answer any concerns you may have about people with a conviction for a sexual offence who are now living in your community.
