Scam prevention products

As part of the Protecting our Community initiative we offer a number of scam protection solutions. You can request them by either:

Protecting our Community is a commitment by the council's Trading Standards team to raise the standard of businesses operating within the region, whilst empowering and protecting consumers from rogue traders.  

Call blocking devices

We can provide call blocking devices to vulnerable consumers who have been targeted by unwanted telephone calls.

The call blocker provides the homeowner with an opportunity to filter out unwanted calls while allowing trusted contacts such as family members through. If a caller is not recognised the device will ask them to identify themselves, enabling options of accepting or rejecting the call. 

The device is provided free of charge and can empower consumers and make them feel safe and secure in their own home, helping to protect them from unwanted telephone calls.

'No cold calling' stickers

We can provide 'No Cold Calling' stickers to consumers for display at their home to deter doorstep callers. The stickers can be placed on a front door, gate, or another visible part of the property.

Stickers can be collected from a range of local businesses and public buildings that have kindly agreed to act as collection points. View a list of sticker collection points (PDF 42KB).

Doorbell cameras

We may be able to provide doorbell cameras to vulnerable consumers who have been targeted by doorstep callers.

These devices can act as both a deterrent and a means of evidence gathering, helping individuals feel safer in their own homes and supporting enforcement action where necessary. Provision is considered on a case-by-case basis, focusing on those most at risk of repeat targeting or harm.

Talks and presentations

We can deliver talks and presentations to community and voluntary groups, charities and other local gatherings. They can relate to doorstep crime and scams but also other functions overseen by the Trading Standards team such as product safety, weights and measures and illicit goods.
