SDS children and young people
Support for children and young people with a disability
We offer support to children and young people, aged 0 to 18, who have substantial and permanent disability or medical condition. Some of our teams have a local area co-ordinator who can offer additional support to families. The teams are based around Aberdeenshire.
We work in partnership with other agencies and help families to:
- identify and prioritise their concerns
- learn about service options
- understand the Self-directed Support (SDS) process
- understand and plan for their child's needs
This is called an assessment. Anyone who is assessed as eligible for social care support can get support through SDS. This includes children with disability and additional support needs, children affected by disability and, young and adult carers. However the process for assessing the needs of young and adult carers differs.
These services are to support families and avoid disruption to family life. They help minimise the effect of the child's disabilities and help children to lead as normal as possible lives.
