All schools closed Monday as amber weather warning extended

All schools and council-run nurseries across Aberdeenshire will be CLOSED tomorrow (Monday) due to the weather.

The decision comes following a further amber weather warning for snow across north and northeast Scotland. The amber warning runs from 6pm this evening through to 10am tomorrow.

In addition, the yellow warning for snow and ice remains through to the end of Tuesday.

Over the next 24 hours, accumulations of 2-5cm of snow are expected widely, with closer to 10cm for roads in the north.

Aberdeenshire Council’s education team will be reassessing the situation tomorrow (Monday) and will provide further updates then.

Gritting crews will be out tonight from 6pm and tomorrow from 5.30am on primary routes with secondary routes and pavements being treated from 7am.

Over the last few days, more than 100 contractor and farmer ploughs have been assisting in snow clearing operations.

If you can, check on neighbours – especially those who are elderly, vulnerable or living alone.

General advice for road users
• Plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel

• Consider delaying travel until conditions improve
• If you are travelling on the roads, prepare yourself and your vehicle for the conditions
• Ensure your mobile phone is charged and plan your journey, including an alternative route
• Have sufficient fuel, warm clothing, food and water in case you’re delayed
