Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak parking charges in the council’s off-street car-parks and associated enforcement has been suspended for the foreseeable period. The decision has been taken to alleviate any concerns that members of the public may have had with touching the machines and to reduce the need for our staff in attending them.

Scale of charges

Paid parking periods

  • Up to 1 hour - £0.50
  • Up to 2 hours - £1.00
  • Up to 5 hours - £3.00
  • Up to 9 hours - £5.00

Payment options

Whether you are parking for a free period or if you intend to park your vehicle beyond the free period, you will always need to input your vehicle registration into the payment meter before obtaining a ticket.

Pay by card

In May 2018 the chip and pin function was removed from our machines due to a change in legislation relating to security. At the time, the cost of upgrading the machines was prohibitive.

In June 2019 we began to reintroduce card payments by trialling two machine upgrades, one in Inverurie and one in Peterhead. Another machine in Peterhead has been fully replaced and 11 more machines in Inverurie, Peterhead and Stonehaven are being upgraded to accept contactless and chip card payments. All 41 machines will be upgraded by April 2020.

Pay by coins

To obtain a parking ticket using coins:

  1. enter your registration details on the keypad on the machine
  2. insert the correct money for the tariff you require
  3. press green button for ticket
  4. display ticket on vehicle
