Sensory room

We have a sensory room at our Crimond Hub that provides a relaxing and stimulating environment. The room is used to support a multisensory experience, through visual, auditory and tactile stimulation. We have accessible, interactive sensory equipment, including:

  • waterbed
  • fibre optics
  • fibre optic curtain
  • bubble tube
  • sensory Infinity interactive wall panel

The waterbed is heated and has a vibro-acoustic function for users to feel the vibrations of their favourite music or calming sounds. Sensory rooms can help the user in relaxation, stress reduction, to engage the senses in a positive way and to help manage anxieties and sensory overload.

The sensory room is also equipped with an OMI sensory projector. This is portable and can be projected onto the walls or a table, to support a variety of individual or group needs. It is motion activated with different programmes, difficulty levels and a variety of real sounds. It can be individually personalised for likes and dislikes, such as favourite music, familiar faces, favourite characters. It encourages individuals to play an active part, rather than passively watch and can provide an upbeat session or a more calming session to unwind. Those with more limited movements can access the activities through rolling a ball or using other items to activate the motion projection.

Shop and Drop

Shop and Drop is a valuable service for the local community to shop for people who can't do it themselves. Those taking part collect shopping lists from customers, go to local shops and return with the shopping. Support is provided by Buchan Day Opportunities staff.

Courses

ASDAN courses can be completed in most groups at Buchan Day Opportunities.

Opening times

Buchan Day Opportunities are open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Your care manager will arrange the times when you can access the day service. They will discuss programmes with you, your family and carers, and staff at Buchan Day Opportunities, providing a person-centred approach to any timetable you may be offered. This includes providing a list of available activities, times and days when these activities take place. Users of the service access Buchan Day Opportunities at different times, depending on individual needs and interests. For example a four day service, accessing half days or specific days to suit the individuals needs. These could be building based or community based activities, or a mix of both.

For information about closures, including unplanned closures, please view Aberdeenshire Day Opportunities.
