Learning disability support

Aberdeenshire Day Opportunities

Day Opportunities offers a range of day support to adults with a learning disability, who live in Aberdeenshire and meet the eligibility criteria for a service.

What Day Opportunities provides

Day Opportunities offer support in a building-based location with access to local facilities in the community to help you meet your identified outcomes. Where possible, people will be supported to transition out of Day Opportunities to other appropriate services to fulfil their outcomes. An 'outcome' is an aim or objective you would like to achieve.

Our building-based Day Opportunities offers help with everyday skills, mobility support, sensory experiences, leisure activities and personalised support. We offer a person-centred programme of activities, tailored to meet individual needs and choices.

Our staff use various communication systems to support people who have limited or no verbal communication or a hearing impairment. To make sure we get it right for you, we work closely with health care and social work teams.

Opening times

Your social worker will arrange the times when you can go to the day service. They will discuss programmes with you, your family and carers, and staff at Day Opportunities, providing a person-centred approach to any timetable you may be offered. This includes providing a list of available activities, times and days when these activities take place.

Users of the service go to Day Opportunities at different days and times, depending on individual needs and interests. For example you may be offered a four day service, half days or specific days. These could be building-based or community based activities, or a mix of both.

Closures

Day Opportunities are closed to everyone for holidays for a week at Easter, a week in October, and two weeks over the festive period in December. We also close for four days during the year for staff training.

Sometimes we may have to close building-based locations that support Day Opportunities at short notice, usually because of adverse weather.

Closures are announced on our day service location closures page.

Regulation

Our Day Opportunities are assessed and graded by the Care Inspectorate for the quality of service we provide.

Our staff are Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registered.
