Central Day Opportunities
Central Day Opportunities offers a range of day support to adults with a learning disability, who live in Aberdeenshire and meet the eligibility criteria for a service.
We work closely with the Learning Disability Health Team to help you with your agreed health and wellbeing programmes, whether that’s supporting you with physio exercises or helping you use specialist postural equipment.

Main hub
Central Day Opportunities has a main hub in the centre of Inverurie at Inverurie Day Centre.
A range of groups and activities can be done in the centre, such as:
- Cooking
- Arts and crafts
- Stretch and relax
- Exercises to music
- Games
- Sensory sessions
There is a multi-sensory room in the centre, which is fitted with a tracking hoist to make it easy to transfer people out of wheelchairs. There are various forms of lighting so the room can be transformed into a relaxed space specific to the needs of those using it.
We also offer groups in community locations, such as:
- Swimming
- Sports
- Ten-pin bowling
- Social networking with other community groups

Ellon satellite base
Central Day Opportunities has a satellite base in Ellon town centre at Ellon Resource Centre.
You can take part in a variety of groups and activities at the centre, such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Cooking
- Baking
- Games
- Exercises
- Sensory sessions
You can also access group activities in community locations, such as:
- Swimming
- Bike sessions
- Sports
- Dance
- Conversation Café

Pitscurry satellite base
Central Day Opportunities has a rural, 7 acre satellite base at Pitscurry.
We offer mainly outdoor activities, focussing on gardening and woodwork and encouraging activities which are environmentally friendly.
Gardening tasks include:
- Sowing, planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce
- Planting hanging baskets for Inverurie town centre
- Mowing grass, weeding, and general maintenance of the grounds
Woodwork tasks include:
- Making small items to sell on site
- Maintaining or renewing wooden items, such as raised vegetable beds
- Chopping and bagging wood for kindling
There is a sensory cabin on site, which is used as a space to relax in. It is equipped with sensory lighting, mats, and soft chairs. The space can also be used for music therapy. It is equipped with a sound beam, which helps people with profound physical disabilities to be expressive and communicate through different types of music and sounds. The cabin also has a drum kit, keyboard, microphone, and various small musical instruments.
