Voluntary parking charges

Some council car parks operate a voluntary parking charge scheme. This means you can choose whether to make a payment when using these car parks. 

How it works:

• Charges are optional contributions
• There is no enforcement action if you choose not to pay
• Contributions can be made with cashless payments
• Use location code shown on the signs at the car park

Where voluntary charges apply

Voluntary charges are in place at a number of car parks across Aberdeenshire, particularly in:

• Coastal locations
• Visitor destinations

Suggested contributions

We have set suggested contribution levels, these are guideline amounts only and are not mandatory:

• 1 hour – £1
• 3 hours – £3
• All day – £6.50

Why was this introduced

The scheme is intended to provide an easy way for visitors to contribute towards:

• Maintenance of car parks
• Ongoing improvements to facilities
• Continued provision of parking services across Aberdeenshire

Income from the scheme is used to support these services.
