Grit bins

In addition to the challenges posed by the recent winter weather, we are targeting our resources to respond to the impact of Storm Arwen. We have redeployed staff from across to the council to: perform critical duties; staff our assistance hotline; and to provide on the ground support for our communities. We are responding to enquiries in date and priority order and as a result there may be a delay in responding to some enquiries. To help us manage these as quickly and efficiently as possible, we ask for your help to avoid calling back our Housing, Roads and Waste lines if possible, if you have already logged a request with us, and thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

There are around 1800 grit bins located at strategic positions within Aberdeenshire towns and villages and also larger grit bins at recycling centres in the larger towns. These resources are to assist with clearing and gritting public roads and footways (not for use on private paths and driveways).

You can access grit bin services online:

  • Request a grit bin to be filled
  • Report damage to a grit bin
  • Request a grit bin to be moved
  • Request a new grit bin

While we work through all requests as swiftly as possible, due to coronavirus it might take us longer to process your grit bin request. There might be a further delay during adverse weather conditions.

Alternatively you can phone 03456 081205 (8:45am to 5pm). If you would like to request a new grit bin, we have a grit bin provisions criteria that we need to follow when assessing these requests.
