Tyres disposal

We stopped accepting vehicle tyres for disposal because we need more space for recycling at the council’s recycling and waste facilities. We are trying to make space for more recyclable materials instead, so that residents can recycle more.

When you need new tyres on your car, ask the garage where you have them fitted to dispose of your old tyres for you. They will normally do this for a small charge. If you change your vehicle tyres at home, the company you buy your tyres from may be able to dispose of your tyres for a small charge.  Always check first.

Bicycle tyres can be put into the non-recyclable waste skip at recycling centres.

If you are unable to dispose of your tyres through a garage, the council offers a tyre waste disposal service at:

  • Banchory - Crow's Nest, Upper Lochton Road AB31 4EQ
  • Ellon - Balmacassie Commercial Park, Balmacassie Brae AB41 8BY
  • Macduff - Tarlair Way, Macduff AB44 1RU

This is a chargeable service and customers are required to pay £2.50 per tyre at the time of the deposit through chip and pin only.

We will accept 4 tyres per household until 31st March 2023 and thereafter 4 tyres per financial year from 1st April to 31st March.

The hours of deposit are 7.30am to 10.30am Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Those wishing to make use of this service can make a booking via our online recycling booking system up to 7 days in advance, with bookings closing at 4pm the day before the visit.

We accept car, motorbike and van tyres, including domestic 4x4s, but not truck tyres.

Should there be a demand for additional tyres over and above the 4 from households with more than one vehicle, this will be reviewed as necessary.
